What Mama was thinking
In that moment, Mama was simply trying to enjoy a morning out with her sons, juggling the chaos of a busy day. Then, like a switch, the defensive yet empathetic Mama mode kicked in when the cashier asked..."Is that your sticker book?"
Left side of brain thinking:
It's normal for my son to communicate with an AAC device. Why can't this world adapt? Just ring us up and let us be and have our day in peace.
Right side of brain thinking:
Innocent question. The Store Cashier didn't know what an AAC device was and it just seemed different. She was curious.
Mama responded with a smile and her boys stepped in with a response.
